Canon’s REALiS SX800 LCoS projector may not have the highest resolution in the world — it’s stuck at SXGA+ (1,400 x 1,050), for those wondering — but it sure is bright. Designed to light up board and / or living rooms with ambient light seeping in, the projector features a 3,000 lumens display and a contrast ratio of 900:1. It’s also housing next-generation 0.55-inch LCoS reflective LCD panels, a Canon 1.5x zoom, Auto Input Signal, 2:3 pull down and an 11-pound chassis. If that’s right down your alley, it’ll be available this month for $2,499.

Pretec has already pushed standard CompactFlash cards pretty far, and it now looks to be branching out beyond the confines of the format, with it today announcing its new CompactFlash-sized (but apparently not CompactFlash-compatibile) CFast storage card. Helping the card earn that title is its use of a high-speed SATA interface, which boosts the maximum transfer speed to a blistering 375MB per second, or roughly 300% faster than the speediest CompactFlash card on the market today. In a bit of a twist to these usual announcements, Pretec says the the first 32GB cards are actually available starting today (albeit not directly to consumers), with some 64GB card promised to be following “soon.”

According to the press materials, Palm hadn’t intended to announce a timeframe for the 3G GSM version of the Pre this week, but Ed Colligan can pretty much do and say whatever he pleases — it’s one of the perks of wearing the CEO hat — and he’s apparently mentioned in an interview with IDG that it’ll roll out in the first half of 2009. That puts the model right in line with the launch window for the CDMA-based Sprint version, giving the carrier virtually zero exclusivity on the global stage — so if 1337 h4×0rz can figure out how to unlock the thing (and if we were betting folk, we’d wager they can), this all means EDGE-only Pres could end up on AT&T and T-Mobile USA lickety-split. Even if that means losing the European 3G guts, you know you’d buy it. Come on now, don’t lie to yourself.

SIM2 never fails to stun, and it’s proving yet again that it couldn’t care less about the global economic situation (or that it just aims at a class of people that are simply unaffected) with the Grand Cinema HT5000E. Said device was actually outed yesterday courtesy of an HDGiants pair-up, but today we’re being gifted with the official details. The three-chip DLP beamer includes a trio of 0.95-inch DarkChip4 DMDs, a 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution, six lens options, Ethernet jack for remote control and world-class color uniformity / edge-to-edge focus capabilities. Yeah, it’ll cost you more than most vehicles and even some diminutive homes at $57,995, but at least the white glove delivery service is included. A true bargain, let us tell you. Hey, cube dwellers — call your manager over and give him / her a look at this, because starting today, conference calling will never be the same. From what we can tell, this is the world’s first Atom-powered telephone, and also the first telephone we’ve seen in years that we would joyously park in our own living rooms. OpenPeak’s ProFrame is an all-in-one conglomerate that handles VoIP calling and offers up a 7-inch touchscreen panel and “an intuitive navigation menu for easy access to contacts, instant messaging, voicemail, calendar, call logs, memos, news, stocks, weather, and many other useful services.” Sure, this critter was totally designed with the hospitality industry in mind, but don’t tell us this couldn’t be molded into a wicked widgets portal for the home.

While wandering Palm’s lounge of poor lighting and heavy shadow, we bumped into the retail packaging for the
Pre. While not likely the final design, it certainly follows Palm’s recent packaging
aesthetic.

DisplayLink is most certainly swinging the big wood here at CES, with announcements spanning from Samsung monitors to Acer multimedia docks. Now, it’s hooking up with HP for the first time ever in order to introduce the USB 2.0 Docking Station with DisplayLink technology. The universal dock enables laptops to pass through audio, LAN and peripheral connectivity, and of course, it enables the laptop to expand its display onto a USB-enabled monitor without the need for graphics cards and the like. We can’t tell you when or where it’ll land, but you can have a gander at the read link for other hardware details.

Somehow we missed the Eee D200 when we first visited the ASUS booth. A return this morning confirms our suspicions that this strange looking device is nothing more than a NAS media server with a touch screen.
